Zymurgy.

Zymurgy is the study and practice of fermentation. It’s what we do every day at Saucony Creek Brewing Company. Our head brewer and zymurgist Nick Micio earned his degree in brewing at the American Brewer’s guild after getting his Bachelor’s degree at Penn State University. He went on to Santa Rosa, CA to apprentice beside world renown brewer Vinny Cilurzo at Russian River Brewing Co. Drawn back to the northeast, Nick moved to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. While there Nick was able to apply his new skills at the Moat Mountain Brewing Company where he brewed closely with German educated Brew Master Will Gilson. To be closer to family, Nick and his wife returned to Pennsylvania in 2009.  He then brewed at both award winning Fegley’s Brew Works and Weyerbacher Brewing Company. Nick joined the family at Saucony Creek in the fall of 2014 and earned a GABF Gold Medal in 2015, as well as several Pennsylvania Farm Show awards.

Did we mention local? We are a PA Preferred Brewery. We brew specialty batches of beer using Pennsylvania produced malt, hops, and fruit. It costs more, but it’s key to our belief in supporting and being part of the local economy. Local jobs and local products benefit your neighbor, not some corporate entity halfway across the country.

Unique.

Our Kitchen Team in Kutztown spends hours planning, experimenting and creating the great variety of offerings on our Kutztown Pub menu. We are a small town pub surrounded by farms and rural living. We craft a seasonal menu that reflects the laid back, casual nature of our Kutztown community, but also challenges the common belief that small town food is, uh, well, boring. Depending on the season, you might select our classic French Onion Soup smothered in caramelized Gruyere and Provolone accompanied with our insanely popular Triple Threat Garlic Fries – tossed with Parmesan Cheese, Garlic Hop Salt, Shaved Garlic, and Black Garlic Aioli. Or maybe you’ll enjoy a seasonal burger such as the Truffle Shuffle 8 Ounce Burger dressed with Truffle Aioli, Gruyere Cheese, Red Wine Onions, Portabella Mushrooms on a Brioche Bun. Perhaps you will select an In-house Hickory Smoked weekend special such as Smoked Watermelon Salad or a seasonal salad such as the Zen Bowel featuring Spring Mix Greens, Quinoa, Pepitas, Gorgonzola, Pears, Roasted Butternut Squash, Sesame Seeds, Radish, and Maple Tahini dressing. Whatever your choice is, our dedicated kitchen team at the Kutztown Pub will bring you the best we can offer.

Did we mention local? Since our inception, we’ve been all about local. Local employees, local vendors, local ingredients. The events of the past few years have solidified that belief. We are a member of the PA Preferred program. When you visit Saucony Creek, you won’t see the mega-corporation food delivery trucks that you see at chain restaurants all over country, from Maine to Hawaii. You’ll see family owned trucks from Eastern Pennsylvania family owned provisioners. You’ll see pickup trucks from local farmers delivering eggs, ice cream, beef and more. You’ll see Dalton, our farmer friend and neighbor picking up spent grain to feed his cattle. In the summer, you’ll see our owners Rob & Karen, Kirby & Deb, and Terry & Deb dropping off produce from their own farms. You’ll see our staff picking tomatoes from our on-site garden at the brewery, serving it the same day. THAT’S local. THAT’s fresh. THAT’S Farm To Table.
