The Story

When we celebrate the tradition of “Carnival Season” in New Orleans – Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday – several things come to mind: revelry, beer, beads, and that yummy confection known as King Cake, all backed by the powerful, energizing, uplifting beat of Zydeco music. The legendary musician Buckwheat Zydeco brought the genre to the masses at the 1996 Olympics, performing to a world wide audience of over three billion people. These iconic images inspired the creation of our Mardi Gras special release.

Brown sugar, buckwheat and a blend of sweet cake-like malts create the base for Zydeco’s Buckwheat King Cake Ale. A touch of cinnamon and nutmeg add spice while the lemon peels give lingering notes of citrus in the background. The icing on the cake emerges from a sweet touch of lactose couple d with final conditioning on whole vanilla beans. Voila! Cake in a glass.
